aims / volunteer
In Papplewick Parish, Nottinghamshire, we are
developing a project to engage locals in observing and recording local flora
and fauna.
We are hoping to establish more detailed information about species diversity
and distribution within the parish.
This is part of a plan to develop greater awareness of natural
history in the area, arising from our desire to develop
Moor
Pond Woods, a local wetland/ woodland area.
What we are trying to achieve
is to
- generate local interest in wildlife and
nature by providing backup resources - e.g. lists, illustrations, maps etc
... and
- collect habitat and species information for
the parish in general and the Moor Pond Woods in particular, using 'everyday'
observations from local people, with a view to establishing a data
collection about species distribution and diversity in the Parish.
- To use the information and the exercise of
collecting it to generate interest of people in the Moor Ponds Woods and
local natural history - for example amongst residents, schools and youth
groups who work on the project or visit the site.
What we aim to do is to
- Create the parish environment web-page in a
draft (but usable) form. - To give information about local wildlife,
including information about identification and habitat.
- Invite and encourage through the Web pages,
Council newsletter and Parish Church magazine a network of contributors.
- Create a mechanism for recording and
displaying the results.
We would appreciate any help which you feel you
could offer to support the projects.
