The next election will be in May 2015.
The Council always meets at the Village Hall on Linby Lane in Papplewick. Meetings are normally held on the second Wednesday in every other month. Each meeting begins with an 'open forum' for villagers at 7.15pm., This is an opportunity for parishioners to ask questions and air their views. The Parish Council meets straight afterwards. Meetings are open to the press and public.
The agenda can be seen in the village notice boards for about ten days before the meeting, or can be downloaded from the link below.
There are three notice boards in the parish which are regularly maintained with up-to-date information.
By producing this website the council is seeking to provide better access to information. The council also issues a periodic newsletter, which is delivered free of charge to all residents.
A Parish Plan has been agreed following a period of consulation. On Wednesday 22nd January 2003 the Council adopted a modified Parish plan and this now forms the basis for Council Policy.
The parish website has a documents page which has an archive of newsletters and minutes, available to be downloaded. There are also copies of the various policies of the council.
Contact the Clerk for further information.
The Council owns and maintains a playing field and children's play area behind the village hall on Linby Lane. Since 2003 a group have been working towards building skateboard facility on the site. In July 2005 the Council added to the range of features by building a shelter. In 2006 the decision was taken to investigate the longer term future of the playground; and, since then, the play equipment has been upgraded with new seating, skateboard equipment, agility equipment and new equipment for toddlers. |

In addition to day-to-day issues, the council is presently engaged in ....
From 1995 there has been an HGV weight restriction along the B6011 through the village (Linby Lane / Forest lane) and also along the B683 (Main Street / Blidworth Waye) from the crossroads to the A60 at Ravenshead. Since then, the Council has continued to try to reduce the speed of traffic.
A traffic calming scheme has been applied to the Forest Lane and Linby Lane 'gateways' and this was extended to the Moor Road and Blidworth Waye 'gateways' in 2003. Since 2005 radar-operated speed signs have been placed on Linby Lane, Forest Lane and Main Street. Periodic traffic surveys and HGV surveys have been undertaken by volunteers.
In 2010 the Council launched LORRYWATCH - a scheme to tackle contravention of the 7.5T road restrictions - was launched at a public meeting in August 2010. Check here for details.

Moor Pond Wood is an area of mixed woodland which stretches from Papplewick Dam in the north to Grange Cottages in the south. The woods mark the sites of former mill ponds. The management of Moor Pond wood was one of our 'Millennium' projects, being developed in conjunction with The Friends of Moor Pond Wood, The County Council and Greenwood Community Forest. The project has received funding from several sources, in particular from the Local Heritage Initiative and Heritage Lottery Fund. Froouncil remains a key partner in the project.
It is planned to explore the water system, habitat management, improved access and interpretation for educational purpose. Funding was granted to carry out surveys of the archaeology and ecology of the woods, to identify a management plan and to clear invasive weed from the pond. Archaeological surveys, exploration and conservation have been carried out. The Friends of Moor Pond Wood is a group who provide assistance in a variety of ways. If you would like to help, or join the 'friends', please contact the Secretary. See the events diary for meeting and working dates.

Although Papplewick was formerly involved in the Parish Paths Partnership, the paths in the parish are now maintained by Nottinghamshire County Council.
See our interests page for more information about footpaths in the Parish. A noticeboard, detailing the paths in the Parish, is located on Church Lane. (SK 549 514)
The millennium footpath project was to construct a new section of the 'Robin Hood Way' which takes walkers off the busy Blidworth Waye, north of Papplewick Village. This was opened in April 2001.
The Parish Council agreed a strategy for developing the network. It can be downloaded from A strategy document for the development of the path network.

In 2003, after receiving a petition from young people who live locally, the Parish Council entered a partnership with the Papplewick and Linby Leisure Enterprise Group with the purpose of providing some skateboard facilities on the village playground
After four years work by the Parish Council and Papplewick and Linby Leisure Enterprise Group, construction work started in October 2006. Our contractors laid a specialist concrete base on which the skate park equipment will be installed.
The skateboard equipment includes two half pipes, a "fun box 4" and grind rail. The equipment was commissioned on the 29th June 2007.
The total project cost £35,500 and without the generous help of several partners, the Parish Council would be unable to provide this facility. The project has been supported by donations amounting to £9,717 from the Papplewick and Linby Leisure Enterprise Group. It has also been partially funded using £17,175 of landfill tax money of Waste Recycling Group (WRG), administered and distributed by Waste Recycling Environmental (WREN).

Following a long period of construcution, the skateboard park was finally opened in June 2007. Here we see the first users on the first day.
The Landfill Tax Credit Scheme (LTCS) currently enables landfill site operators to divert a proportion of their annual landfill tax liability to Environmental Bodies. For more information about WREN and the availability of WRG's LTCS money visit www.wren.org.uk or Return to the top of this section

Our thanks extend to all partners for their help and support.
The Council is currently engaged in a project to upgrade and enhance the Playing Field to make better provision for children and young people.
In 2006 the Council recognised that some of the equipment was past its best and did not adequately meet the needs of the local community. At the same time, Gedling Borough Council was initiating the development of the Gedling Play Partnership to help in the process of reviewing play provision throughout the district. The partnership produced a strategy document 'Making Play Matter in Gedling,' in an effort to shape the future of children and young people's play throughout the borough over a five-year period. In order to implement the play strategy a number of interested bodies, including parish councils, were brought together under The Gedling Play Partnership. As part of its commitment to ensuring adequate play provision for the people it serves, Papplewick Parish Council joined the Play Partnership. One strand of the Play Partnership's strategy involved a joint application to the Big Lottery Fund’s Children’s Play Programme for resources to improve and develop opportunities for play. As part of that application, the Parish Council secured a grant of £21,840.
The new equipment was installed in October 2008 by Playdale Ltd and offers a variety of inclusive play opportunities. The project has been designed to create different playzones within the one facility, allowing a wide range of ages and needs to be catered for.
A tower unit equipped with slide, tunnel and bridge has replaced the old out-of-date agility equipment. The 'Little Splot' multi-function play item (specifically designed for 3-8 year olds who were previously not adequately catered for) has also been installed. Appropriate safer surfacing is included to meet all current design specifications for play equipment. Two new waste bins will hopefully ensure the site is kept clean and tidy and is a welcoming place to play.
Money from the Big Lottery Fund has provided a teen shelter which will be erected shortly. The shelter will complement the Skate Park and encourage older children to an area they can call their own. The shelter provides a facility for teenagers who do not wish to be seen playing but still need a facility where they can socialise with friends.
The Parish Council wish to acknowledge the help and support of the Gedling Play Partnership in securing Big Lottery Funding, without which these improvements would not be possible. We are also grateful for a grant of £7,000 from Nottinghamshire Community Foundation which has enabled us to purchase the 'Little Splot' multi-function play item.
