The agenda is published in the village notice boards for about ten days before the meeting.

3. Facilities owned and maintained by the Council.

The Council owns and maintains a playing field and children's play area behind the village hall on Linby Lane.   Since 2003 a group have been working towards building skateboard facility on the site. In July 2005 the Council added to the range of features by building a shelter. In 2006 the decision was taken to investigate the longer term future of the playground, and a plan has been developed to upgrade the play equipment over the next few years.

There are three notice boards for display of community information - on Linby Lane (by the bus stop), on Moor Road (Opposite the end of Papplewick Lane) and on Mansfield Road (in the bus shelter).

The council also maintains Church Lane.

Contact the Clerk for information about these facilities.

4. Current projects.

The council issues a periodical newsletter.
In addition to day-to-day issues, the council is presently engaged in ....

4.1 Traffic Calming

From 1995 there has been an HGV weight restriction along the B6011 through the village. Since then, the Council has continued to try to reduce the speed of traffic.

In 2000 the village saw construction of a traffic calming scheme applied to the Forest Lane and Linby Lane 'gateways' and this was extended to the Moor Road and Blidworth Waye 'gateways' in 2003.  In 2005 radar-operated speed signs were placed on Linby Lane and Forest Lane.  Periodic traffic surveys and HGV surveys have been undertaken by volunteers.

Nevertheless, speeding traffic, traffic volumes and encroachment by HGV vehicles remain as major issues in the village.

4.2 Moor Pond Woods.

Moor Pond Wood is an area of mixed woodland which stretches from Papplewick Dam in the north to Grange Cottages in the south.  The woods mark the sites of former mill ponds.  The management of Moor Pond wood is one of our 'Millennium' projects, being developed in conjunction with The County Council and Greenwood Community Forest. The project has received funding from several sources, in particular from the Local Heritage Initiative and Heritage Lottery Fund.

The planned scheme involves the restoration of the water system, habitat management, improved access and interpretation for educational purpose. Funding has been granted to carry out surveys of the archaeology and ecology of the woods, to identify a management plan and to clear invasive weed from the pond.  Archaeological surveys, exploration and conservation have been carried out.  The Friends of Moor Pond Wood is a group who provide assistance in a variety of ways.  If you would like to help, or join the 'friends', please contact the Clerk.  See the events diary for meeting and working dates.

An audit of flora and fauna is being undertaken. Contact Stephen Walker if you would like to help.

4.3 Parish Paths Partnership

Papplewick and Linby were the first two parishes in the county to sign a joint P3 (P3= parish paths partnership) Agreement with Nottinghamshire County Council (supported by the Countryside Agency) to manage footpaths in both villages. This agreement has recently been renewed. Work continues to improve footpath conditions and signage, and to increase awareness of the footpath network. A strategy document for the development of the path network has been published.  See our interests page for more information about footpaths in the Parish.

The millennium footpath project was to construct a new section of the 'Robin Hood Way' which takes walkers off the busy Blidworth Waye, north of Papplewick Village.  This was opened in April 2001. A noticeboard, detailing the paths in the Parish, has been erected on Church Lane. (SK 549 514)

4.4 Information network.

By issuing a periodic newsletter, and producing this website the council is seeking to provide better access to information for residents.    Recently archived documents have been added to the website.  Contact the Clerk for information.

4.5 A Parish Plan.

The Parish Plan was agreed following a period of consulation. On Wednesday 22nd January 2003 the Council adopted a modified Parish Plan and this now forms the basis for Council Policy.
Contact the Clerk for information.

4.6 Skateboard Park.

In 2003, after receiving a petition from young people who live locally, the Parish Council entered a partnership with the Papplewick and Linby Leisure Enterprise Group with the purpose of providing some skateboard facilities on the village playground

After four years work by the Parish Council and Papplewick and Linby Leisure Enterprise Group, construction work started in October 2006.  Our contractors laid a specialist concrete base on which the skate park equipment will be installed.

The skateboard equipment includes two half pipes, a "fun box 4" and grind rail.   The equipment was commissioned on the 29th June 2007.

The total project cost £35,500 and without the generous help of several partners, the Parish Council would be unable to provide this facility. The project has been supported by donations amounting to £9,717 from the Papplewick and Linby Leisure Enterprise Group. It has also been partially funded using £17,175 of landfill tax money of Waste Recycling Group (WRG), administered and distributed by Waste Recycling Environmental (WREN)

4.7 Playing Field Upgrade

The Council is currently engaged in a project to upgrade and enhance the Playing Field to make better provision for children and young people.

Background

In 2006 the Council recognised that some of the equipment was past its best and did not adequately meet the needs of the local community.  At the same time, Gedling Borough Council was initiating the development of the Gedling Play Partnership to help in the process of reviewing play provision throughout the district. The partnership produced a strategy document 'Making Play Matter in Gedling,' in an effort to shape the future of children and young people's play throughout the borough over a five-year period.  In order to implement the play strategy a number of interested bodies, including parish councils, were brought together under The Gedling Play Partnership. As part of its commitment to ensuring adequate play provision for the people it serves, Papplewick Parish Council joined the Play Partnership.  One strand of the Play Partnership's strategy involved a joint application to the Big Lottery Fund’s Children’s Play Programme for resources to improve and develop opportunities for play.  As part of that application, the Parish Council secured a grant of £21,840.

The Equipment
The new equipment will cater for a range of age groups and offers inclusive play opportunities.  Big Lottery Fund monies will provide a teen shelter to complement the Skate Park and encourage older children to an area they can call their own.  The shelter provides a facility for teenagers who do not wish to be seen playing but still need a facility where they can socialise with friends.  A new tower unit equipped with slide, tunnel and bridge will replace the existing out of date agility equipment.  Two activity play panels will compliment existing equipment to create a playzone for younger children who are currently not adequately catered for.  Appropriate safer surfacing will be included to meet all current design specifications for play equipment. The project has been designed to create different playzones within the one facility, allowing a wide range of ages and needs to be catered for.  Two new waste bins will ensure the site is kept clean and tidy and a welcoming place to play. It is currently anticipated that work on installing the new equipment will commence in February 2008 with the enhanced facilities made available or use shortly afterwards.

The Parish Council wish to acknowledge the help and support of the Gedling Play Partnership in securing Big Lottery Funding, without which these improvements would not be possible.
