The Leisure-Enterprise Group was formed in 2002 following the enthusiasm of two Papplewick teenagers, who petitioned the villagers, asking for a skateboarding facility on Papplewick Village Playing Field.  The Parish Council thought it would be wonderful ... if sufficient funding could be found.  The Enterprise Group was formed to work closely with the Parish Councils of both Papplewick & Linby to improve facilities in both villages.
We started off by having a ‘Gardens Open Afternoon’, when parishioners opened their gardens and allowed the public access.  It was so successful that it has now become one of the major ‘events’ in the two villages’ calendar.  We have a three-year rota.  Last year Linby Village opened their gardens.  This year (2016) it is Papplewick ’s turn.  Generally, the Gardens are opened on the last Sunday in June.
Our other fund - raising project is ‘The Villages Bonfire and Fireworks Spectacular’. This is a major coup as there are not many venues that will support a fireworks display due to increased insurance and public liability.  The Parish Council has been absolutely wonderful, backing our enterprise 100% and making sure that the Fireworks and Bonfire are fully covered by their insurers. The fireworks are paid for, entirely, by local businesses.  We have a Bonfire Newsletter, that goes out annually, and all businesses with a local connection are welcome to contribute to it.  The proceeds from this newsletter buy the fireworks, so that there is no extra cost to the villagers.

Lastly, but by no means least, a massive ‘Thank –You’ to WREN.  We applied for a grant to cover the cost of the skatepark and they sponsored us - by giving us a grant of £17,775. It is difficult to comprehend that we now have a skate park that is used all the year round. It is amazing that after 5 years of fund-raising the skate park was actually in place and well used.

The Enterprise Group initiated the provision of adult equipment on the playing field. Thanks to a successful bid application by the Parish Council, the equipment was eventually funded wholly by the HSWBP  (Health & Social Well Being Partnership ). This enabled the PLLEG to totally sponsor the cost of the new roundabout and make a contribution towards its installation to the value of £6900.The group also provided the new "Stef Bear" litter bin by the junior play equipment and an additional two pieces of adult Gym Equipment.

Money has also been made available to support other projects in the parishes, for example ... provision of flower planters, christmas lights and support for local organisations.
The AGM is held at The Horse and Groom pub in Linby at the end of April.  Residents from both villages were welcome to attend.  Anyone wishing to help the Enterprise Group can contact the Secretary.
