PAPPLEWICK AND LINBY DAY CENTRE

GENERAL INFORMATION.

The Day Centre was opened on 4th. July, 1997, and meets at 10.30am. each Friday, in the "Bradbury Suite" at Papplewick and Linby Village Hall, Linby Lane, Papplewick.

The Centre caters for the "Over 60" age group who are socially isolated and live in the ecclesiastical parishes of Linby and Papplewick. It enables Members to get out of their home environment, to meet others and enjoy a very happy social occasion.

For those who are unable to provide their own transport, this is arranged through the volunteers.

On arrival at the Centre members are served with coffee and biscuits. The rest of the morning is taken up with various recreational pursuits. A hot nutritious lunch, which is cooked on the premises, is served at 12.30pm.

Following lunch, members enjoy a varied programme, which can include visiting speakers, table games, quizzes, and singsongs. Tea and cakes are normally served at 2.45pm. Members leave the Centre at 3.30pm. to return to their homes.

Occasionally there are organised outings for lunch away from the Centre to places of interest.

It has been shown that by coming to the Centre, Members have an interesting and enjoyable day, make new friends, gain new knowledge and skills, and realise that they are still valuable Members of the Community.

The current charge for membership is £4.00 per day, including meals, transport, and activities.

In the past The Day Centre has been supported by grants from the Lottery Charities Board and the Millennium Commission.
